In this page we will be looking at the opening and how to get the best combination of defence and attack.

To start, you are going to need to get the e and d pawns out to the centre.
You will also need to get your knights and bishops out. It is always a good idea to castle and get the two rooks together. Here is a few classic openings that help you do that.

Bishops opening

e4, e5, Bc4

Elephant gambit

e4, e5, Nf3, d5.
The Elephant gambit isn't technically a gambit. A gambit is a pawn sacrafice to gain time or position. In this opening you are sacraficing one pawn to gain another pawn.

Four knights opening

e4, e5, Nf3, Nc6, Nc3, Nf6

The thing about these openings is that they are well knowen and can be easily combated.
Most experienced players would play more asymmetrical openings.
